What are Negative Ions?
Ions are nothing more than atoms or molecules that have gained or lost an
electron. Ions are formed when an electron is detached from a neutral molecule
(or atom). The molecule losing an electron becomes a positive ions and the
molecules gaining an electron becomes a NEGATIVE
ION.
How do Negative Ions and Ionizers Work?
Negattve Ion generators or Air Ionizers emit a stream of negative ions. Negative
ions collide with airborne molecules- which are large raft for hundreds of
toxic chemical and diseases organisms. The Negative Ion gives up its negative
charge to the molecule. These new negative molecules are then attracted to
the positive molecules surrounding them. This accumulation process continues
until the particles become heavy enough to fall to the floor. It is this process
that removes the small pollutant from the air we breathe. With an Air Ionizer the air is clean, NO
CIGARETTE SMOKE , NO POLLUTED AIR, NO AIRBORNE PARTICLES FLOATING AROUND.
Almost all surfaces within a room are positively charged. In addition to
the accumulation, the negatively charged air particles are attracted to
positively charged surfaces within the occupied space. The surface near
the ionizer will darken proving its effectiveness. Be sure the surface is
washable.
Negative ions aid in increased oxygen intake.
Research has been conducted since the 1950's about negative ions and
improvement in mood, anxiety, increased cognitive ability, increased energy,
reduced depression, and improved sleep, as well as improvement in breathing
and air quality. One gets the feeling of alertness and vitality, similar
to the feeling we get when we are in a beautiful forest or near a crashing
waterfall or breathing crisp, clean mountain air.
What is the difference between dust particles and gas molecules?
The optimum particle size that negative ions remove from the air is 5 microns.
This size is 100,000 times larger than a gas molecule. Can you imagine how
many gas molecules can attach to a dust particle? Dust particles soak up
gas molecules. Gas molecules cause odors in the air. If negative ions can
remove dust the attached gas molecules also are removed.
What is the difference between odors and gases?
Odors come from the gas molecules. If you remove the gas molecules, you
remove the odor.
Wellness Tools is proud to carry the electrocorp
line of Negative Ion Generators.
electrocorp ionizers are two to three times
more powerful than those of thecompetition. To decide on the purchase
of an ionizer you must look at specifications. Some companies won't send
you specifications; or, if they do, the specifications will not be stated
according to accepted criteria. Remember to ask how many negative
ions are produced each second per cubic centimeter measured at one meter
from the emitters.
Another consideration is how many thousands of volts powers the unit.
Voltage governs the production of negative ions and ozone. Both are produced
at the same time. We use 15-18 KV. This window allows the maximum production
of ions with the minimum production of ozone. If you increase the voltage,
ion production goes down and ozone production goes up. Decrease the voltage,
and the ion field generated is very weak.
electrocorp is universally acclaimed as having the best ionizer on
the market with regard to density of negative ions, quality of our units
(those sold in 1985 are still running) and low price.

WHAT'S
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A NEGATIVE ION GENERATOR AND A NEGATIVE IONIZER.
None. A
negative ion generator is an ionizer. An ionizer is a negative ion
generator. However, all ionizers are certainly not equal. Our
negative ionizers are long-life, high-ion-density units which put out the
optimum level of negative ions.
DO
YOUR NEGATIVE IONIZERS ALSO PRODUCE POSITIVE IONS AS A BY-PRODUCT.
No. Our
ionizers do not generate positive ions. Some other brands of ionizers
generate the negative ions by removing electrons from nearby oxygen atoms
(thereby creating positive ions) and transferring the electrons to nearby
neutral atoms to generate negative ions. However, our ionizers emit
all the electrons directly from the ion emitters (instead of robbing them
from other atoms). These electrons transfer to oxygen atoms in the
air, creating negative ions in large quantities without also creating positive
ions.
EXPLAIN
THE "BLACK WALL" EFFECT.
Effective ionization
will deposit dust on the surfaces close to the ionizer. There is no way
to prevent this and still have a good negative charge in your air. The
best thing to do is to place your ionizer away from the wall. What is happening
is that your walls are very large positively charged surfaces and the negatively
charged particles will be attracted to them. If you have your ionizer within
three feet of your walls you are exposing them to the strongest part of
the ionizer's plasma field, which is a 3-foot area around the ionizer.
The dust collection on the walls is an annoyance; however, it is evidence
of all of the particulate that you are not breathing. If your wall is of
low porosity, the buildup is easily washed off.
HOW
IS THE OUTPUT OF A NEGATIVE ION GENERATOR MEASURED?
We do not measure
the ion density at the emitters, as it is not difficult to produce trillions
of ions at a point of discharge or within several centimeters. The most
meaningful measurement is the ion density at one meter. To be brief, the
measurement in cubic centimeters/second at one meter means that at one
meter (3 feet) every cubic centimeter of airspace has a density of 4.5
million ions. What you are looking for is the presence of negative ions
throughout the area, not just around the unit. We use a method known as
pulse plasma field technology to disperse the negative ions. This works
by emitting the ions in pulses, followed by a pause and then another pulse.
This gently disperses the ions, as the negative charges will naturally
repel each other. The result is a nice even negative ion density throughout
the area. Our ionizers are designed to be effective for a 400 square foot
room. (20ft X 20ft). If you have a larger space you just add another ionizer
being sure to separate them by 10 feet.
CAN
OZONE BE DANGEROUS?
Ozone can be dangerous.
The EPA, OSHA, UL 867 say that no ozone generator should produce more than
50ppb of ozone. The electrocorp Plasma-TronTM
produces no more than 50ppb and electrocorp ionizers
produce less than 10ppb. Too much ozone can cause irritation of the respiratory
tract, increase mucous flow, cause itchy eyes, and a scratchy sore throat.
WHAT
IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DUST PARTICLES AND GAS MOLECULES?
The optimum particle
size that negative ions remove from the air is 5 microns. This size is
100,000 times larger than a gas molecule. Can you imagine how many gas
molecules can attach to a dust particle? Dust particles soak up gas molecules.
Gas molecules cause odors in the air. If negative ions can remove dust
the attached gas molecules also are removed.
CAN
NEGATIVE IONS HARM COMPUTERS?
Computers should
be kept away from any form of electrostatic radiation. A field of negative
ions is a form of electrostatic radiation (ESR). Though electrocorp
has never had any cause to worry because of the ESR our ionizers produce,
we still caution those that purchase our ionizers to place them 6-10 feet
away from computers.
HOW
DO IONS AND OZONE DIFFER?
Ozone attacks
(oxidizes, breaks down) the gas molecules in air and only the gas molecules.
Ions charge the dust particles in the air removing them.
CAN
I GET A SHOCK FROM THE electrocorp IONIZERS?
Ionizers can shock
you. The ion emitters in many ionizers on the market today are enclosed
in a box with a grill over the opening. These can shock you. One other
side effect of these ion generators is many of the ions produced are neutralized
by the surfaces of the container and the grill before they get out into
the room where you are. This is one big reason why electrocorp
Ionizers have the national reputation that they do have. electrocorp
ionizers produce the highest density of negative ions at the lowest price.
You can touch the emitters of the electrocorp ionizers
without getting a shock. electrocorp's Pulse Ionization
Field Technology senses your touch and turns off the power supply. Depending
on the level of moisture in your environment, over time there may be a
slight buildup of Calcium Carbonate on the emitters. A Slight tapping
of the emitters will cause that buildup to drop off. This often occurs
inadvertently when a person dusts the ionizer during routine housekeeping
and is not even aware of it.
WHAT
KIND OF MAINTENANCE DO YOUR IONIZERS REQUIRE?
Our ionizers require
zero maintenance. Because the emitters (often referred to as "needles"
or "wires") are made of Tungsten, they do not erode; therefore, they don't
need "trimming" or replacing. There are no moving parts. You just plug
in your ionizer and enjoy the benefits.
SHOULD
SOMEONE WITH A PACEMAKER BE CONCERNED?
Many say that
it is safe for someone with a pacemaker to use an ionizer. Even if there
is one chance in a million that an effect might be experienced, electrocorp
warns against those with Pacemakers using an ionizer.
WHY
DO THE EMITTERS GLOW IN THE DARK?
What you are seeing
is a small plasma bubble filled with a high density of negative ions. As
soon as the small bubble is generated the circuit that produced the bubble
is shut off. Then as quickly the circuit is turned back on and another
bubble forms. Since this new bubble and the old one are negatively, charged
the new bubble pushes the old bubble further out into the room. (Remember
like charges repel one another). This continuous, repetitious event is
the basis of naming our Pulse Plasma Field technology.
WILL
THERE BE A BUILDUP ON THE EMITTERS? IF SO, HOW DO I ELIMINATE IT?
Depending on the
level of moisture in your environment, over time there may be a slight
buildup of calcium carbonate on the emitters. A slight tapping of the emitters
will cause that buildup to drop off. The drop off can occur inadvertently
when a person dusts the ionizer during routine housekeeping and is not
even aware of it.
WHAT
IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ODORS AND GASES?
Odors come from
the gas molecules. If you remove the gas molecules, you remove the odor.
WHAT
METHODS ARE USED TO REMOVE DUST PARTICLES AND ODORS FROM THE AIR?
There are two
separate ways of purifying air. One method is achieved by removing dust
from the air. Negative ionization, HEPA filters and electrostatic precipitators
all do this. Negative ionization gets the dust to fall out of the air or
stick to positive surfaces within the room. HEPA filters remove dust using
replaceable filters. The electrostatic precipitator, electric filter, removes
very fine dust particles and deposits them on an internal metal surface
that you can remove and clean in a dishwasher, thus, saving the need to
replace filters. The second way of purifying air is to remove the volatile
organic compounds that are responsible for odor. This is done by using
carbon filters and in certain commercial situations, ozone. When you use
any two methods in combination you do increase the efficiency of the cleaning
unit.
HOW
BIG ARE VIRUSES? HOW EFFECTIVE ARE HEPA FILTERS?
Viruses are 1/100
of a micron or .01 microns.
HEPA type filters
extract particle sizes of .3 microns or larger.
The difference
between .3 microns or 1/78,000 of an inch and .01 microns or 1/2,500,000
of an inch is HUGE!
The electrocorp
ionizers remove particles as small as .001 microns.
IS
DUST HARMFUL?
Dust is the most
harmful part of air pollution inside or outside. It has been recently reported
that dust is responsible for more deaths each year in the United States
than automobiles. (55,000 versus 60,000 people).
HOW
MANY NEGATIVE IONS DO I NEED TO FEEL BETTER?
The purpose of
ionizers is to restore nature's outside ion concentrations inside. Outside
nature has 3000-/5000+ ions per cubic centimeter. Most ionizers don't produce
enough negative ions to cross the standard size room. They will treat only
a small area of the room around them.
electrocorp's ionizers,
by pulsing plasma bubbles, produce 4.5 million negative ions per cubic
centimeter measured 1 meter from the unit (little over three feet). At
a distance of 12-15 feet, we achieve nature's balance. If the room merits
it, another ionizer can be placed in the space as long as ionizers are
approximately 10 feet apart.
DO
YOU MAKE ANY UNITS THAT WILL IONIZE AN ENTIRE HOME?
Our ion generators
are designed to treat one room at a time. Negative ions do not travel through
walls. When a negative ion comes into contact with a positively charged
surface such as a wall, it will discharge against that positive surface.
Also, negative ions lose their charge as they travel away from the emitters.
Our ion generators will cover a 400 square foot room.
