About the Authors
Steven Bratman, M.D., is a physician whose practice integrates the
best of conventional and alternative medicine. He believes that alternative
medicine has both strengths and weaknesses, just like conventional medicine.

David J. Kroll, Ph.D., is associate professor of medicine at Duke
University Medical Center, research director of the Duke Center for Integrative
Medicine, and a consultant for pharmacists, physicians, and alternative
practitioners on the indications and cautions for herbal medicine use. He
received a degree in toxicology from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy
and Science and obtained his Ph.D. in pharmacology and therapeutics from
the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Kroll has lectured widely
and has published articles, abstracts, and newsletters in a number of medical
journals.
